A Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager is responsible for developing industrial hygiene and occupational health policies and best practices. Your field of expertise will be the science and art of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and preventing environmental factors or stresses in the workplace which may cause sickness, impaired health and well being of workers or the community.

Your goals will be to manage risks and assure compliance with regulatory rules and standards. You'll also supervise others in positions such as the Health, Safety and Environment Technicians or Specialists. Your leadership will be key in helping your staff members do their best. Another exciting part of your job may be to develop industrial hygiene and occupational health programs. These programs will be targeted at reducing health risks on the job.

You'll also work with your team and other departments to train others on industrial hygiene, wellness, and chemical hazards. You'll create and monitor communications programs to maintain and improve the health and performance across the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop programs and procedures targeted at reducing occupational health risks
  • Plan, direct, and manage the company industrial hygiene program
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety
  • Investigate accidents to identify causes and determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potential hazards
  • Inspect or evaluate workplace environments to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Develop or maintain hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, or ventilation surveys
