In this role, you'll carefully plan out procedures for disasters such as a hurricane, a hazardous materials spill, or other crisis situations. In this role, you'll also be the person to make sure your plan is carried out correctly in the event of an actual emergency.

Communication skills will be key. You'll conduct training courses that teach people how to effectively respond to major emergencies and disasters. You'll coordinate disaster response or crisis management activities. This may include plans to order evacuations or open public shelters.

Your knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations. You'll see to the protection of people, data, and property. In this role, you'll develop and maintain working relationships with with local law enforcement, county departments, and similar groups. This will help you plan for coordination and exchange of personnel and equipment in the event of an emergency.

To get this job, a background in healthcare and knowledge of healthcare hazards emergency preparedness is a plus. Experience with notification systems is also helpful for getting into this role. Taking FEMA courses will also give you a leg up on the competition when it comes to applying for this role.
