You might work on ducts, control boxes, drainpipes, and furnace casings.  As a Sheet Metal Worker, you may also work with machines that cut, bend, or straighten sheet metal. In this role you may operate soldering or welding equipment to join sheet metal parts.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand blueprints, drawings, or written or verbal instructions
• Convert blueprints into shop drawings to be followed in the construction or assembly of sheet metal products
• Determine project requirements such as assembly sequences or required methods and materials
• Layout, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on material such as roofing panels or other sheet metal materials
• Fasten seams or joints together various tools to assemble components into products or to repair sheet metal items.
• Trim, file, grind, buff, or smooth surfaces or seems of assembled parts
• Understand and follow all safety rules
