Are you fascinated by the inner workings of electrical systems? Want to design your own someday? As an Electrical Engineer, you’ll be a key player in making sure the electrical systems and equipment in the plant are running smoothly and safely.

An Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design and maintenance of electrical systems for the chemical plant processes. This role works to assure reliability in keeping everything up and running. This includes troubleshooting when problems arise, or planning preventative maintenance programs to help eliminate issues from occurring. You'll recommend solutions to problems and oversee the completion of repairs. You'll jump in and provide technical assistance when necessary. It will be up to you to make sure that electrical systems and controls meet accepted industry standards and codes.

Electrical Engineers are also called upon to help justify, plan, and execute large projects. These might include the installation of new and upgraded electrical and control systems in a plant. Keeping up-to-date with electrical technology and design changes will help you know how and where to make improvements to the system. A keen attention to detail, as well as the ability to see 'the big picture' will also help you in this role.

In order to find a job as an electrical engineer, you’ll need a Bachelor’s degree in the field. Previous experience, or even a Master’s degree, will give your resume a boost and make you a knowledgeable, resourceful engineer.
