Ever caught yourself saying, "There has to be a better way!" and coming up with ideas on how to do just that? As a Production Engineer, you will plan and establish the sequence of manufacturing operations to make them more efficient. You'll evaluate everything from how the plant is laid out, to the cost and flow of materials used, to the ideal staffing plan.
Your observation skills will be put to work as you monitor and evaluate operations and troubleshoot plant problems. Careful analysis will help you design the best layout of equipment, materials, and work space. You'll use drafting tools and computer programs in your work. You'll also inform decisions related to worker functions and responsibilities.
Monitoring the equipment is also an important part of your job. You'll be on the lookout for machine downtime that interrupts operations, and you'll find ways to help minimize this downtime. You'll also make recommendations on upgrades or changes to improve production efficiency.
Working with plant personnel, you'll communicate recommendations and help to implement those changes, so good communication skills will come in handy. Part of your role will also be to document changes and ensure that changes meet quality guidelines.
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering will be required for this role.
