You will be responsible for identifying and acquiring the supplies needed for manufacturing products. This can include negotiating contracts and building relationships with vendors. You'll work with other departments to understand the best timing and flow of materials into the company to benefit production schedules. A solid understanding of supply and demand is critical for this role. You will help decide how much is produced and when based on client demand. You'll also make sure finished products are shipped to the right client at the right time in the right amount.

Another important aspect of your job is to find more efficient way to ship products. This can include knowing when to order supplies and how much is needed to ensure the right amount materials. It also means keeping an eye on production schedules to make sure finished goods aren't sitting around too long in the warehouse before being shipped out to customers.

Many employers typically prefer a Bachelor's degree. Most employees work their way up into this position by gaining experience in areas of the company such as warehouse operations or logistics.

  • Forecast demand or create supply plans that ensure availability of materials or products
  • Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers and vendors
  • Ensure that the company makes enough of its product to meet customer demand
  • Direct the movement, storage, or processing of inventory
  • Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste
  • Verify final products are delivered to customers in correct quantities and at the right time
  • Implement new or improved supply chain processes
  • Select transportation routes to maximize efficiency
