Are you focused on details and great with numbers? Do you work until the job is done? Become a Quality Engineer and you’ll spend your days crafting tests that check every inch of a product or machine. You’ll be involved with the manufacturing process from the first stage to the last, always making sure the product is at its highest quality.
You’ll work in the lab, your office, and the production floor to design tests. Your job will be to conduct tests on everything from the raw materials that will make a product to the finished item just before it leaves the plant. Your goal will be to find defects and determine the cause of the defect. Next, you'll help to develop a solution to the problem.
As a Quality Engineer, you’ll also help identify areas where the process could be improved to make a higher quality product. Teamwork and communication is a must when working with multiple departments to implement a change. It is important to follow all the applicable safety codes and laws.
Quality Engineers need at least a Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Courses in mathematics, engineering processes, computer-aided design (CAD) software, and technical drawings will be required.
Specific job titles and duties vary by employer so check for details.
