Did you hope for a microscope for a birthday present as a kid? Do you love details? If so, you would make a great Quality Assurance (QA) Laboratory Technician. As a QA Laboratory Technician, you'll evaluate materials and products to make sure they are at the level of quality they should be.
You'll spend your days conducting quality assurance tests using a variety of instruments and laboratory equipment. Operating and maintaining the equipment will be part of your daily routine. Safety is always important, so you'll need to make sure you follow all health and safety policies and procedures when conducting evaluations. You'll document all of your test results for every inspection and test you conduct. You'll most likely use a computer program to record your findings.
Basic mathematical and statistical formulas will come in handy when analyzing test results. Based on your findings, you'll make recommendations for adjusting process conditions to ensure that quality standards are met. Good communication skills are important to share your findings with others. It is also important when working with your team to find and correct a problem. Other duties include keeping inventory of laboratory chemicals and supplies. You'll also be responsible for keeping the laboratory area clean.
You can secure a career as a QA Laboratory Technician with a high school diploma and previous experience in a lab. This is a great way to get your foot in the door. Most employers will prefer an Associate's degree in Chemical Technology or a related field.
This job may require shift work.
Specific job titles and duties vary by employer so check for details.
