Valero is making significant investments every day to produce cleaner-burning fuels and much more.
Valero is the world's largest independent petroleum refiner, and a leading marketer, ethanol producer and corporate citizen.
Valero subsidiaries employ approximately 10,000 people, and assets include 15 petroleum refineries with a combined throughput capacity of approximately 2.9 million barrels per day, 11 ethanol plants with a combined production capacity of 1.3 billion gallons per year, and a 50-megawatt wind farm. More than 7,400 outlets carry the Valero, Diamond Shamrock, Shamrock and Beacon brands in the United States and the Caribbean; Ultramar in Canada; and Texaco in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Valero is a Fortune 500 company based in San Antonio.
The Valero Houston Refinery began operations in 1942 and has gone through numerous modifications and expansions. The refinery is a mid-sized plant with a total throughput capacity of 160,000 barrels per day and produces a wide range of petroleum products. Valero acquired the Houston refinery when it purchased Basis Petroleum from Salomon Inc. in 1997. The refinery is located on the Houston Ship Channel, with deep-water access for off-loading feedstocks.
The company raised $10.4 million for children’s charities across the United States in 2015 through the Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children. The contribution is among the largest charity gifts on the PGA TOUR. Since Valero became the title sponsor of the event in 2002, and through 2015, it has raised $100.9 million.
Valero's employees are the heart of its success, and there is a reason why the company is an employer of choice in the fuels manufacturing and marketing industry. It’s not just the excellent benefits package, or the opportunities for personal growth. It’s also the caring and committed culture of the organization that makes everyone feel like they’re truly part of a team.
